i see a grocery store that looks like it doesn't have very good business at this time. the first thing i noticed was that it looked empty and closed, and things were very cheap. there are words that say prices of things, for example, sugar is 54 cents, tomato juice is 49 cents, and and Irish potatoes are 3 lbs. for 10 cents. from this image, i learned that money lost most of its value, and things were very cheap. i also learned that people didn't have much money. people are missing from this image because it is very empty. if someone made this today, there would be many more people, it would probably be bigger, and prices would be much more expensive. i wonder how many people buy from there, how much business it gets, and if it was out of business or not. i also wonder if the prices were always this cheap, or if they just went down during the depression.

to me, the physical setting is an empty cornfield, and everything is very lifeless. i see many corn stalks dying. the only objects shown are corn stalks. i see no people. in the image, the corn stalks are dying, and the corn is peoples food. i think this image was made to show how tough the times were during the depression. i can learn from this that the depression was a very difficult time, and people had to grow their own food sometimes because they didn't have a lot of money. i wonder why the corn was dying and why no one was taking care of it so they could eat it. i also wonder who all the corn was for and who was supposed to be taking care of it.

first i notice that there are not very many people. i also notice that it isn't that busy, and all the people are African-American. the people shown are all African-Americans, and there aren't many people in the picture. what i see is a strip of stores and a street that has cars parked, but doesn't seem very busy. i think it was made during the time of the Great Depression because it looks like there isnt much business at the shops because money was low. i learned from this image that people didnt have much money to go buy things, and the great depression really effected African-Americans. if someone were to make this today, it would be different because there would be more people of mixed races, and the shops would be busier.

A drinking fountain labeled with a sign 'White.'
A drinking fountain labeled with a sign 'White.'
the first thing that i see if that there is a sign over the water fountain that says "white" meaning whites can only use it. the words i see are water, soup, and white. the object shown is a water fountain, and only whites can use it. i think this image was made to show how racist people were then, because the water fountain is only for the use of white people. i can learn from this image that people were so racist at a point, that they wouldn't allow colored people to drink from the same water fountain as them. if someone made this today, there would not be a sign over the water fountain saying its for whites only. i wonder why people were so racist, and why they couldn't use the same things as colored people, especially water fountains. i also wonder what people thought was so different and bad about colored people.

A cafe near the tobacco market with separate doors for 'White' and for 'Colored.'
this picture is a store with a door for whites and a door for colored. the first thing i notice in this picture is that they have a separate door for whites and colored. the words that i can see are on one door it says its for whites, and on the other door it says its for colored. i think this was made to show how racist people were. i can learn that people even had different doors for whites and colored to enter and thats how racist some people were. if someone made this today, there would only be one door, not separate doors for whites and colored. i wonder why people couldnt even use the same doors as someone of another race, why people of other races didnt like each other, and when people ever realized that the only thing different about them is there skin color.
Negro man entering movie theater by 'Colored' entrance.
Negro man entering movie theater by 'Colored' entrance.
i see a movie theater, a colored man, and an entrance only for colored people. the first thing i notice is that man walking into the entrance. the person shown is one colored man. in this picture, a colored man is walking into a movie theater through the colored only entrance. i think it was made to show how they had separate entrances and even separate movie theaters for white and colored. if someone made this today, the entrance wouldnt be for only colored. it would be for any race. i wonder why whites and colored had to have their own separate entrances to everything, when colored and white ever started using the same entrances, and where there was a place that whites and colored were not segregated.
